5 easy family photo ideas you’ll be glad you took before your children grow up!
“Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory”Dr Seuss
Family photos only increase in value as the years pass and your children grow. Let me introduce myself, I’m Kika, I’m a photographer and I’m a mum. And I now find myself in the really strange position of both my children being at Secondary school. This is a wild and terrifying thought but what makes it easier to swallow is knowing I’ve documented my childrens’ growth as much as humanly possible. As a control freak it allowed me to control the unstoppable passage of time. So I’d love to share my quick tips to snap easy yet precious pics of your children, that will make your heart sing.
I want to make sure that when your children are older, taller than you and leaving home, you have loads of photos of them when they were tiny. The pics might seem beautifully mundane now but one day that is why you will weep. You will long for splashy bathtimes, chaotic weekends and loud mealtimes.
EASY & QUICK PHOTO IDEAS
Don’t wait for the perfect time, it will never come. Grab and camera – any camera!
Just capture the moment in all it’s authentic reality and chaos. One day these beautifully mundane moments will be locked in time warp.
* Photograph your child’s favourite cuddly toy in their fave snuggle spot.
* Losing a tooth, document those gappy smiles or letters for the tooth fairy.
* Tiny toes, new shoes, favourite items of clothing or footwear.
* Moments of play must be photographed. Whether it’s Lego, dens, dolls or craft. Soon their interests will move on.
* Bath time, soon privacy will be the only thing that matters, capture their innocence NOW.
* Find a spot in your home and snap them there year after year! Repeat! For me out front door and the pillars outside have been a theme that I have repeated year after year. From nursery days, to school days, to World Book Days to Secondary school starts. Find a spot and keep returning to it. Then as your children grow everything around them shrinks, it’s a great thing to photograph.
Please remember looking at family photos can boost your mood and self esteem – FACT! But in times of stress they can also anchor us and bring us back to the good times. And with teens and tweens that is important for you and for them.
