details captured on Kika Mitchell Photography Chelmsford Photographer Newborn shoot

I’d like to introduce beautiful and precious Eloise, here’s her story.

One scorching June day this rather glowy (posh word for hot and sweaty) Chelmsford photographer (that’s me) arrives at the most incredible house in Stock. As the door of Marissa and John’s house opened I was welcomed with friendly clients, divine cool light, airy spaces and the joyous and friendly Eleanor. Eleanor is Eloise’s big sister and even though I was booked to photograph Eloise’s newborn photography shoot, big sister Eleanor had other ideas. This shoot soon became a family event with the youngest 5 week old member of the household making cameo appearances as energetic Eleanor took centre stage.

That is precisely why I love my job. Children embracing you, showing you their favourite hiding places and secret sweetie stash is like a golden ticket of acceptance. The purity of their reactions makes everything worthwhile. They are the best critics and if they are having fun it’s guaranteed their parents will also enjoy the shoot, whilst being natural and relaxed.

Eloise was a little bundle of loveliness, and very dinky. And just look at Eleanor’s beautiful red tresses, I was in Pre Raphaelite heaven. The colour pallet of this beautiful home so full of light and love, the warmth of Eleanor’s red hair, the contrast of the greens we found whilst out hunting for mini beasts, this was indeed a gorgeous way to spend a morning. And the results speak for themselves, there is nothing I don’t love about this gallery. Apologies for tooting my own horn but I’m so proud of this series of images that will hopefully become part of Marissa, John, Eleanor and Eloise’s family history.

Photography is all about documenting the now, to remember in the future. As a child I always remember looking at our old family photo albums, often I wasn’t even in the pictures, a mere twinkle in my daddy’s eye, but it didn’t stop those photographs and the memories they conjured up being less powerful. And then when I saw photographs that I featured in, even as a child I loved seeing myself in print, it was my family story. I used to look and wonder at how little I was, how my hair was still curly even as a tiny baby and how everyone around me had a look of love for me. And in those moments I knew where I belonged, the proof was right in front of me. The power of photography will only grow stronger as time passes. So that’s why you should book a family photoshoot. Not just for the photographs themselves but for the legacy it will provide for all your family. To quote my own soundbite, photos really are the gift that keep on giving – sorry that sounds cheesy, but cheesy means it’s true! And who doesn’t like cheese!

My natural newborn photography is all about the details I can capture to document the hazy, sleep deprived days of that precious newborn bubble. Eloise’s tiny toes, how small she looks in her enormous cot, the newborn cards still proudly on display, to name but a few. Everything I photograph is like a time capsule of a time that is so incredible and fleeting that even total strangers stop you in the street to share some of your contagious newborn bliss.

Anyway as predicted I’m broody once again, mourning the lovely smell of my own babies heads, milky muslins and a time when their needs were more simple and easily met. As one is about to trot off to school and is so excited by the prospect that he want to wear his uniform every SINGLE day, I feel like screaming the cliche’ of “it’s goes so quick” at frazzled new mothers in street I don’t even know. It really used to wind me up when everyone said it to me so I made a promise never to say it, but now I see why they said it, again because it’s just so true. They need to know they must enjoy every moment despite their fatigue, leaky boobs and lack of personal hygiene because soon coo’ing will be replaced by the incessant ear worm of “Pup pup boogie” and “Mummy can you wipe my botton?”. But the biggest cliche is I wouldn’t change a thing. Actually maybe I would… if only their arms reached a little further… Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’ve enjoyed my musings. I’d love to hear your comments below. Until next time x
