What to wear for your family photoshoot with Kika Mitchell Photography.

Once a family shoot has been booked, the next question I always get asked is about what your family will wear on your photo shoot with me. It’s really easy to create timeless and classic looks that will translate easily into your photographs. I want to deliver images that are full of love and connection, using wardrobe choices that compliment and don’t detract from your loving family. We want you to be the focus not the super fashionable busy trousers your toddler will grow to hate in years to come.

MOST IMPORTANT TIPS EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD:

Firstly, wear clothes that you feel comfortable and happy in. Don’t use your shoot as a chance to wear a brand new outfit that you will fiddle with and feel awkward in. You need to look like you and we want your photos to be relaxed and natural so your outfit should reflect this.

Please avoid busy prints, logos, slogans and patterns. Not only do these often date, but they can be really distracting. Don’t get me wrong I adore children in ditsy prints (Liberty prints makes my heart melt), cute patterns and motifs. I’m talking about cartoon characters, sports labels and anything else that will date or lead to hate!

Siblings look super cute in matching outfits. If they blame you in the future you can blame me! Trust me the results are stunning in photographs. See below for proof! Anyway most toddlers think Paw Patrol pants are a fashion statement so what do they know!

Please also check out my Pinterest boards which also show many more examples of clothing ideas and colour palettes.

Indoor Lifestyle Shoots: wardrobe ideas

Wardrobe choices for shoots at home can be relaxed and natural and as long as they reflect your personalities and the colours of your home anything goes. Examples below show neutral colour tones and palettes that compliment each other.

Spring Shoots: wardrobe ideas.

Spring shoots can be really diverse for wardrobe choices but when outside I would advise that the wardrobe choices you make reflect and compliment the environment in which you will be photographed. When lots of green will be in the backdrop, blues and navy blues work beautifully. As do paler colours. I love pinks too which also compliment blossom colours. If you prefer to avoid coats then layer your children to keep them warm.

Summer Shoots: wardrobe ideas.

Summer wardrobe choices should be cool and comfortable above all else. Hot and sweaty children will soon become grumpy so keep them cool and you will be more cucumber like too! As like with Spring choices, try and reflect the season in your colours, neutral and pale colours will compliment the brighter colours that are going on in nature (grass and trees will be very bright green so dilute this with paler choices).

Autumn Shoots: wardrobe ideas.

Autumn shoots are wonderful as the colours in nature can be so vibrant. You will see bright reds, oranges and browner shades of grass. So I would advise you to go for yellows, mustards, reds, dark blues. Ideally avoid oranges so you don’t blend too much with the background. But just look how wonderful these warm reds and yellows look beside the bright reds of the apples on my “Apple Orchard” mini sessions from last year. Then layer children up to avoid chilly blue lips incase it’s slightly chilly and we are good to go.

I really hope my wardrobe ideas have been useful. If you have anymore questions please give me a call or an email. And if in doubt we can stop for an outfit change halfway through the shoots, after all you are the star of this show so it has to work for you.
