WITNESS THE FITNESS AS WEAR ‘EM OUT UNFOLDS IN PICS

Brand evolution Wear ’em out pads This wonderful woman Lauren Derrett needs no introduction but if you have been living under a rock then let me introduce you to the woman who is trying the change the way we period. This is the photo story of Wear ’em out pads brand evolution.

Lauren produces reusable period pads produced in the UK. She has been my close friend now for a few years now after we met at an event in 2016. Her tenacity and unfiltered bravery are what set her apart from other business women I know. Once you meet Lauren you won’t forget her. She’s gobby, proud, honest, refreshing and loving. And her brand ethos for Wear ’em out pads is pretty much the same.

BRAND EVOLUTION

The reason I’m telling you this is because when you are trusted to capture the photographic branding of a new, previously taboo and ground breaking product, you can’t approach it in an conventional, safe or formatted way. I must also tell you LAUREN HATES HAVING HER PHOTO TAKEN. So my challenge is always to make her branding shoots fun. Having your photo taken can be a really vulnerable time for people who aren’t comfortable in front of the camera.

I’m telling you this for transparency but also to prove that the photos don’t show this. So I’d like to reassure you that whatever doubts you have we can work them out on your shoot and I can help you be photographed in a gentle way. Anyway I digress…back to Lauren.

THE BRAND SHOOTS

In the very first images we took of Lauren at the Refill Room in Leigh on Sea we wanted to break the mould. Her bright blue suit portrays the bold and bright way that she wanted to introduce her product to the world. She was breaking new territory and she wanted to look frikkin cool as she did it! We definitely succeeded. (She is also wearing a pink hoodie in other shots in a cafe and her hair is clipped up)

For the next shoot I did with Lauren we wanted to try something different so we headed to the beach. We stuck with bold colours with the backdrop of the beach huts as a subtle nod to what had come before and the infamous “blue suit”. Then on the same shoot we ventured into new colour territory with earthy greens and oranges but I think Lauren’s heart was still stuck in bold pink and blue territory. (Her hair is still short in these shots but without a clip)

The last shoot I did with Lauren was at Fete in Chelmsford we wanted to move the brand story forward with some scaled back images which portray a brand in it’s grown up phase. These images are relaxed and informal yet show an elevated look. They celebrate a woman who knows herself and what works for her and her business. There’s a nod to the bright and bold colours of previous shoots and the new colourful shirt is the perfect replacement for the “blue suit”. (Lauren’s hair is much longer in these shots)

When a client asks you to photograph them again it’s really flattering, but slightly nerve wracking. You hope you can reinvent your own work whilst creating another strong set of branding images for them. It’s always a collaborative process with the client based on trust and mutual respect. But with my TV background and vision I felt confident I could rise to the challenge. And without tooting my own horn I think we nailed it again.

Lastly, if you haven’t checked out Wear ’em out, make sure you do, just click here. I can say hand on heart they are comfy, amazing and totally reliable.

I’d love to know what you think about Lauren, her pads and my photo story of her brand. Please leave me a comment below.
